The rationale behind using social media marketing is that it will help Woolworth to enhance its overall brand image and reach target customers in more cost-effective manner. The social media plan for Woolworth is developed and mentioned below as: Auditing the existing social presence Auditing is considered as the first and foremost step in the development of a social media marketing plan. Further, auditing help businesses to identify its existing presence over the platform and the degree to which it can influence customer decision making. Through the analysis carried out, it has been examined that at present Woolworths is not so active on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The result of this is that the selected business enterprise is not able to achieve higher sales and profits(Frow, Nenonen, Payne, Storbacka, 2015). However, it can be critically argued that Woolworths has developed its official page on Facebook and account on Instagram, but it is not actively involved on these platforms. Defining target customers It is considered as the second stage in social media marketing plan where organizations define their target customers. This stage is very crucial to defining target customers help companies to develop more effective and result from oriented marketing strategies. The company will be targeting men, women, and kids to increase the sale of apparel. On the other hand, people who prefer to consume healthier products will be targeted by Woolworths to sell its organic food product(Parente Strausbaugh-Hutchinson, 2014). It can be asserted that Woolworths will be mainly targeting people who fall under the age group of 25 to 45 years with an objective to increase sales of its products and services. Social media mission statement The development of mission statement is essential for long-term success of social media plan. The rationale behind this is that mission statement provides direction to employees by providing them with the future course of action(Karjaluoto, Mustonen, Ulkuniemi, 2015). Here, the social media mission statement of Woolworths will be to offer quality and healthier food products to the people living in Australia. Furthermore, the brand will also emphasize on creating more and more awareness among people in the country regarding buying quality products and services. Identification of the key success metrics - It can be expressed that only implementation of the developed social media plan will not offer the company with desired outcomes or results. The business will be required to select certain tools and metrics through which it can evaluate the success of its social media marketing plan. The evaluation will also provide Woolworths with direction and guidelines for future improvement(Owen Humphrey, 2009). The key metrics which the retail supermarket chain will be using are conversion rate and total share metrics. The rationale behind using these parameters is that it will help Woolworths to identify the loopholes and areas for improvement in the existing social media plan. Creating engaging content This stage can be considered as the most important stage in the entire social media marketing plan. The reason behind this is that irrelevant and boring content will fail the organization regarding attracting more and more customers. The effective market research will be carried out to understand the key factors which influence customers over social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter(Kitchen Burgmann, 2015). Furthermore, the business will be using different types of videos, images, info graphic and blog post to maintain the interest of target customers in its products and services offered. Apart from this, digital marketing personnels will be hired to ensure that content is changed on a regular basis and response is provided to the doubts and concerns of the target audience. At the same time, Woolworths will be making use of the content calendar to define in advance that what content it is going to post on which social media platform in the futur e. Tracking analysing and optimizing- Woolworths will also emphasize on making use of different monitoring tools to identify the effectiveness of social media marketing strategy. For example tools such as Streamview will be used to carry out monitoring of its practices on Instagram(Milichovsky Simberova, 2015). On the other side of this, Tweetreach and Social mention are the key tools which will be used to monitor and track the progress on Facebook. Based on the information collected, effective measures will be taken by the brand to ensure effectiveness of its social media marketing plan in the long run. Detail of its evaluations/how will you measure IMC plan effectiveness Tweetreach and Social mention are the two most important tools which will be taken into consideration by Woolworths to evaluate and measure effectiveness of the integrated marketing communication plan(McDonald Wilson, 2016). The use of Tweetreach will help the company to identify how far its tweets have travelled till now. At the same time, this monitoring tool will also help in analysing the practical impact and implications of the discussions which are carried out on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. The below mentioned image represent how the company will be carrying out monitoring of its IMC plan through Tweetreach On the other side of this, tools such as social mention will be also taken into consideration to ensure that the implemented IMC plan will be able to provide desired and best possible outcomes(Luxton, Reid, Mavondo, 2015). It can be expressed that the use of social mention will also provide Woolworths with an opportunity to determine the overall brand strength on social media channels. Effective monitoring of the entire IMC plan will be carried out through the mentioned above tools and the company will be taken corrective measures to overcome the issues and loop holes in the plan. Furthermore, the monitoring will help in getting the best possible outcome of the implemented plan. Conclusion From the above report it can be inferred that to succeed in the competitive marketplace company must indulge in using integrated marketing communication for promoting and advertising their products. Along with this, report also summarizes the different communication (advertising) objectives such as enhancing brand awareness as well as promoting information regarding products and services of Woolworths etc. Apart from this, it also results in devising media strategy that is used by the cited firm for accomplishing the stated goals and objectives. There are many fears which are associated with the modern society in relation to the social, political, and educational threats which can be portrayed in the dystopian fiction world. The hunger game is portrayed by Katniss to give strength to the emotional behaviour of the women. During the tyranny, she worked for bringing revolution for her country. She has sacrificed her life and become ideal for his younger sister. The government had ruled on the emotions and associated memories of the people during control over people of the country. The Protagonist Joans, was not able to reveal his memories associated with that environment. He showed his emotion to the universe through his eyes. The literature reveals that the memories should be shared with various person because it give loneliness more than pain. The human life worked on the principle of youth which means that one can live a life free and on its own. The culture of the human behaviour represented in the dystopian novel helps in revealing the information related to human behaviour that how one should behave in the worse situation. It is easy to live a life of happiness and difficult to face the problems in real life scenario. In the hunger game, the author wants to portray the life of slavery in which human does not have a freedom to show his emotion to anyone. The only way through which human can present his memories and emotion that is through weeping eyes. The tears from the eyes show the loneliness which he is facing in the world of slavery. The happiness of life should be sacrificed for others. This literature helps in providing the sense of living through the characters of the novel. The powerful impact can be seen in the life of the human by adopting the role of dystopian character in his daily routine job. The memories of the life should be shared to resolve the problems of loneliness. The sense of living should be developed with the reading of dystopian fiction character. People should not live the life of the wild animal who does not look upon the problem of others and want to live their life without any worries of humanity. In the new landscape novel, the author Bruce Dawe wants to portray that with the increasing use of cars, the world of car will be developed in the near future. The cumulative use of car will convert a world in which only the sound of acceleration will be heard in spite of the sweet sound of birds. The chirping sound of the bird will be lost in darkness. The country will be full of smokes due to the excessive use of cars on the road side. There will be no space for car driver i.e. for humanity. The streets and locality will be packed with the stop light or traffic lights for controlling the congestion of the car on the roadside. The motorist and pedestrians are provided with the underground road to get safe driving in the world of car. No barking of dogs will be heard in the underground path developed for motorist and pedestrians. The extreme cutting of the trees will be carried out to construct the parking areas for the car. With the passage of time, there will be a world with no more trees. We have never have a thought that what we are going to give to our upcoming generation. The nature is completely going to be destroyed with the increasing development and excessive utilization of the car. The upcoming generation will be awarded with the world of horns instead of chirping sound of birds, no fresh oxygen from the garden in the morning due to overcutting of trees for building parking areas, daily anthem song in the sound of car horns, increasing number of death due to the decreasing rate of life supporting system which are trees for human. In the upcoming future with the increasing demand of cars, there only car will remain due to the complete destruction of humanity. In this literature, the author want to portray that growth rate of cars will result in the world of future in which no life will be there because of the destruction to the life supporting system for human which are trees. The upcoming generation will not be aware of the sweet chirping sound of the birds. From morning till evening, they live in the world of car. The dystopian novel characters helps in analysing the importance of trees and nature to the life of the people. The step should be taken to resolve the problems which are associated with the car. The increasing level of pollution will be major hazard for the destruction to the humanity. The challenges and issues related to the growth of excessive use of cars should be resolved to give a safe and secure life to our little ones. They should have a freedom to live in the world of nature in which they can listen sweet chirping sound of birds, take fresh oxygen from the greenery of the garden, and listen to the daily prayers withou t any distraction from the car horns, the world free of smoke, and others. The dystopian fictional characters of the novel help in analysing the real life problems which can have a direct impact on the social life of the people. The step should be taken to resolve these issues early in the real world scenario. The sense of living should be developed with the reading of dystopian fiction character. The culture of the human behaviour represented in the dystopian novel helps in revealing the information related to human behaviour that how one should behave in the worse situation. It is easy to live a life of happiness and difficult to face the problems in real life scenario. This fictional platform helps in portraying the humanity problems and culture with the possible outcome in the near future. The above two scenarios helps in analysing the problems faced by the people at the time of slavery. It is difficult to control their emotion without speaking a word to another person. The feeling of loneliness is more painful. The ill effects of pollution can be analy sed with the second story. The harmful effects of car utilization should be measured and relevant steps should be taken to give a gift of nature to our off springs. The dystopian friction literature provides a platform where the memories of the life can be shared to resolve the problems of loneliness. References Akhir, N. S. M. (2017). Through the Thick and Thin free essay sample
There arenââ¬â¢t many times where trying to be friendly could end up with negative results, but I learned the hard way that sometimes there are people that you just need to avoid. I was in seventh grade when my math teacher had announced that we had a new student. I felt that I could help this new guy and befriend him. It went fine for the first few months, we hung out, played some video games, and the list just goes on. However, after a while my parents started making excuses to avoid having my friend over. They later told me that it was because they didnââ¬â¢t trust him, he seemed like someone who could cause trouble in their eyes, in hindsight I really should have listened. When I finally convinced my parents to let my friend back over I finally started to see some things that my parents saw in him. We will write a custom essay sample on Through the Thick and Thin or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He started with stealing from me and borrowing money off of me with no intention of returning it under the excuse that ââ¬Å"friends donââ¬â¢t ask for their money back.â⬠These things angered me but I was too naive to stop him. Next came treating my other friends like garbage and since I was already in his little circle, I was completely blind to the impact it was having as I joined in their laughter. It took me till one year later that I finally realised his true nature after he and his group had switched their focus from my friends to me. I was teased, made fun of, and tossed aside despite the fact that I had done nothing to deserve it. I finally stopped hanging out with them and severed all ties that I had to that group, I was finally free from the manipulation and pain. After breaking away from the group, I felt that I was all alone with no friends left to turn to. It turns out that I was wrong. One friend who was hit the hardest with all the snide and ugly remarks made by my previous group of ââ¬Å"friendsâ⬠was still there for me. Even after all the times that I laughed with the group at all the jokes made about my friends weight and how he wasnââ¬â¢t quite as smart as all of us. Here he was, waiting for me to open my eyes. His loyalty to his friend is what drove him through all the hate and the insults. I really couldnââ¬â¢t have asked for anyone more respectable than he is. Even with all the people that I will meet in my life I know that there is one guy who will stick with me to end, no matter what the journey may entail. This is why I feel that the most inspirational and supportive person in my life is my friend, Tyler. The man who enlightened me to a new sense of loyalty and taught me to always defend my friends no matter who the person is.

Texas government politics - Essay Example Jane is likely to face resistance from the Latino and African American communities in the state. These groups have got a significant number of people but few turn out to vote during the elections (Stiles and Zahira). The White population towards the West are more likely to turn out in large numbers during Election Day. In the recent years, the areas that were previously the preserve of the Democrats like East and West Texas are increasingly being dominated by Republicans. The issues she will handle will vary by country. In the predominantly white states, she will have to deal with issues of security and the need to reduce federal spending (Slater). The Republican members are increasingly being angered by the excessive spending that is the norm of the federal government. They would like to see budget cuts in various areas with an increase in revenue generation in order to improve the stateââ¬â¢s outlook. In the other mixed race counties she will be dealing with issues of immigration and security along the borders (Slater). Their border with other countries has realized an influx of illegal immigrants who come into the state in search of jobs. These people however present a potential security risk to the local inhabitants. Measures to curb this influx has been met with great criticism among United States citizens from these neighboring communities such as Hispanics. Reassuring them of the governmentââ¬â¢s commitment to their needs is a challenging task. Women are also likely to support her should she address the issue of gender.

Understanding Vietnam Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Understanding Vietnam - Assignment Example Another war broke, and this time other nations also joined the war. Many Vietnamese had taken refuge in other countries when the fight intensified Jamieson. It was late 1950s and early 1960s that the Americans started getting into Vietnam slowly by slowly and by 1970s, they were already too many in Vietnam. The Americans poured money, equipment, and even facilities in Vietnam to aid them in their mission (Westheider 50). As the war continued in late 1968, which is termed as the year of death, the numbers of orphans increased, crippled people were all over, the widowed not to mention the amputees and paraplegics. This became so astonishing, and the Americans, although they had not well understood the values of tradition for the Vietnamese which remained in their hearts, decided to bring a change in the nation. The Vietnams embraced the idea though they were not sure of what plan the Americans exactly had and for the sake of their suffering to end (Westheider 82). This are helicopter wars used by the Americans troops to fight Vietnam whereby troops were moved to any location in the nation, confirming the amount of combat seen by soldiers during an annual tour were far higher than during world war II. During Viet Cong Camp, the helicopters poured machine gun fire as a form of attack. The Americans on seeing how the war had so much impacted on them and also to the Vietnamese, they decided to in turn advocate for an end to the war. The Vietnamese responded quite well to this and in return the Americans introduced education system to the nation and Vietnamese had right to get access to classrooms together with the Americans. They could also catch planes to various destinations of their choice. Through out the whole of Vietnam, everyone shifted to a flexible and less exacting behavioural traditional values (Jamieson 301). The black market boomed again by 1970s in Saigon, and the government moved further in their

Food Business and the Defence of Due Diligence Essay
Food Business and the Defence of Due Diligence - Essay Example The accused operator is required to establish beyond doubt that the proposed offence occurred due to the fault or negligence of a person, agency or organization that was not under one's direct control and that one thoroughly and credibly assured that the food items under question were checked to the extent of being reasonable (Food and Safety Act, 1990). The accused is also required to establish beyond doubt that he was totally oblivious of the fact that the proposed omission committed by him would amount to an offense under the Food and Safety Act, at some time in the future (Food and Safety Act, 1990). The court of law accepts the defence of due diligence to be valid if the accused food operator, conclusively proves and satisfies the above mentioned requirements and corroborates authentically that the food items under scrutiny were never meant to be sold under one's brand name or mark (Food and Safety Act, 1990). In an ideal scenario, resorting to the defence of due diligence by a food operator necessitates an unwavering compliance with the spirit of this provision in the Food and Safety Act, 1990, which was introduced after a widespread public outcry following the instances of the sale of contaminated and substandard food items in the UK (Lyddon, 2005). Basically the defence of due diligence

Causes And Impact Of Global Warming
Causes And Impact Of Global Warming The global warming means that our plants temperature rises which happened as a result of the human activities and industries. Global warming has become perhaps the most complicated issue facing the world leaders in order to protect the planet and the future .The earth has warmed by about 1Ã °F over the past 100 years. Why it is happened The scientist in the past decades was not sure, but now they know that the most prominent cause being man-made pollution. This pollution happened because of the human activities that produce carbon dioxide or as known greenhouse gas, which traps heat within the atmosphere of the earth and contributes to global warming which is yet another. Large part of the pollution is happened because of burning the fuels in order to power the internal combustion engine vehicles and as we know that the number of the cars , trainers , ships the air planes are increasing day by day without widespread alternative energy sources which actually increase the effects on the global warming . Burning coal to produce electricity as well as use it to move the trains is another meaning of fossil fuels that produce more carbon dioxide. On the other hands, the scientist found that the main cause of global warming is the human. The human attributed in increasing the carbon dioxide by their normal requirements such as breathing process, food, electricity and transport, but these requirements are increasing day by day, by the increasing in the number of the population that live in our planets. The agriculture contributes in global warming because the farmers use many different types of fertilizers and the dung produced by cattle which produce prominent source of methane that affect the atmosphere. The global warming has many complications and has a huge affects in the earth. It threatened the human life the quality of life in the direct and indirect way. Many statistics show that the number of chronic diseases and lung diseases has been increase comparing with the last decades which is associated directly to the global warming. The changing in the food supplies, water and the weather is the indirect way impact on global warming which leads the humans to be uncomfortable and threatened about his essential needs and requirements. Similarly, the global warming has affected the other living things such as animas plants and the increasing in the temperatures cause many animals species to lose their habitat like polar bears and tropical frogs. The animal migration patterns have been irregular and hugely affected by changing in the climate. Animal extinction is the most serious result of global warming , According to the Intergovernmental Panel on (IPCC), an increase in global temperature by 1.5 to 2.5 degrees will make 20 to 30 percent of species vulnerable to extinction, while a rise of about 3.5 degrees will make 40 to 70 percent species vulnerable to extinction. On the other hand, the global warming impact on non living thing. The global cause change on the natural terrain characteristics of the earth such as the sea level to be rise several meters which leads to cause many of the low lying areas to submerge underwater and which could displace millions of people. In Maldives, is already starting to look for a new home because of sea levels rising .Melting huge amount of ice such as whole of the Antarctic ice sheet melts may cause the global sea level is expected to rise by 10.5 meters. Also , The acidic rain and the climate affect the agriculture and the human architecture. The Acidic rain is resulted from combination of carbon dioxide with the rain which cause a massive crop failures over time . Moving the sands and the desert to the living area is another cause of global warming which usually called deforestation especially in the tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland. All of these factors has been contributed in 90% chance that 3 billion people worldwide will have to choose between moving their families to milder climes and going hungry due to climate change within 100 years. Because of previous affects of the global warming , many scientists argue about the issue of climate change , some was thinking that it is a very slow process and it need years and years to affect directly the human life and be threatened .Other opinion was a against this opinion and they consider that they forget that the factors which cause global warming are rapidly rising and if we could not control it now at the present time it will be difficult to control it in the future and they expected that these factors will rise at a faster rate in the future. I think that we have already done enough damage to our planets , and we may not live to face the direct consequences of global warming , but it is our duty to protect our planet now and control our activities in order to reduce the global warming or until the scientist find an efficient , working solution for global warming . It is our duty to gift a safty, healthy planet for our grand grand children and to the future generation . Also it is their right to have a healthy safe planet similar to thats belongs to our grand fathers . First: how global warming affects the UAE in particular The global warming has been noted in all the countries in the whole world including the UAE . The global warming affects the UAE in many ways . It cause an increase in the temperature which affect the agriculture and the life under the sea . Recently , the UAE News was warning the people from consuming some type of fish because its already dead by the phenomenon of red tides that attacks the UAE beaches specifically in Dibba Al Fujairah . This phenomena not only kill the fish but it also affect the human overall health because it cause respiratory irritation like coughing, sneezing, and tearing when the red tide organism is present along a coast . The global warming also cause the desertification where more sand move into living areas and affect the movement and transportation of peoples . Desertification may affect the agricultural crops because the tons of sands buried the crops plants . On the other hand , the UAE regions could significantly increase temperatures because of global warming which may affect the tourism in the UAE and influence the economy. In detail , the UAE economy depend mostly in the tourists and tourism , so any change or decrease on the total number of tourist that will cause a decrease in the financial income and economical problems . The UAE life , despite being quite a small population , is contributes produce high amount of carbon dioxide which increase the global warming. The statistics of the UAE show that the increase in CO2 emissions is within the range of 33% and 35% between 1997 2006 and this precentage may increase in the next years (Energy Information Administration. , 2008). The UAE has one of the highest carbon footprints on a per capita tonne basis in the world. In fact, four of the worst offenders are from the GCC Qatar, UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait. (Global warming could displace millions in the Middle East , 2008) Second : What should we do here what is the role of the UAE What should the UAE do Because of the high percentage carbon dioxide , the UAE governments and people should cooperate together in order to reduce the outcome gases and control its impact on the global warming . Recently , UAE has become a member in the earth hour and encourage people to switch off the electricity for 1 hour in order to reduce carbon dioxide gas which at least will help to reduce the affect on the global warming . UAE do not view the earth hour as only electricity shut down, but they also view it as a chance to educate the people about the global warming and the importance of the cooperation to solve this problem , so as we observe from last couple weeks , many people from different age and gender were worry for the mother earth and they involve in the earth hour . In 27th of January 2009 , the UAE signs statute establishing the International Renewable Energy Agency, IRENA , the purpose of this agency is to focus in renewable energy is one of the key solutions to the current challenges facing the worlds energy future and the global warming . Many countries are involve in IRENA and they foster the production and use of renewable energy through different approaches. The UAE believe on the importance of energy as a main driver for the economic growth and they trust that renewable energy is crucial to the worlds future safety . The UAE governments launched the Estidama Program and the Pearls green building rating system which would become integrated into the building code and the launch of the Emirates Green Buildings Council . The Estidama Program can be considered as an important step towards low carbon emission buildings in the UAE which buildings plays a key role in protecting the environment, reducing energy consumption and checking on energy efficiency . This would help to improve the energy usage and the water required for cooling properties in the hot summers. Similarly to Estidama program , the UAE government started to develop the worlds greenest city in Abu Dhabi . The government started before several years to find a friendly way to produce the energy with minimum amount of gases , zero waste city, a silicon valley for renewable energy. Masdar city will be the global home of Renewable Energy .This city focuses on the complete value chain of the renewable energy sector and claims once ready , it will be a carbon neutral place to live where no cars will be allowed to enter. Masder is the new clean future for our next generation and it is the model to encourage other cities to follow . Masder support the human right believe in the future generation rights , so it is very unique , modern idea . The government of UAE encourage the renewable energy and believe that it is the future . The solar-hydrogen energy system is one of the newest energy that used in the UAE , in order to reduce the pressure on the oil usage and to find new technology that is friendly to our environment . The government put many precious awards to encourage the people and the companies to use this clean energy source . Zayed Future Energy Prize Awards is one of the biggest energy awards that encourage the clean, alternatives energy use inside our country and the prizes reach up to $1.5 million Dollar. All of this awards are reflect the view of our governments which summarize in few words when HH General Sheikh Mohammed said In commemoration of this humanitarian approach, the award was established to recognize and motivate creative minds and innovators in the field of renewable energy, with the ultimate purpose of maintaining a healthy and clean environment for future generations, The UAE government put many Policies and legislations to reduce the energy demand . For example , the government put many roles to reduce the number of the cars use in the streets by increasing the fuel prices . In Dubai , and recently Abu Dhabi started to put fees in some parking which is usually lied in the middle of the cities . There is something new called Salik which is means in Arabic open or clear , and it is the latest generation technology in tolling, working without battery , it is like the street fees which is mainly purpose to avoid the traffic jam and reduce the number of vehicles , so the amount of the gases will be reduce especially in the main streets . Also , the governments in the UAE try to reduce the burning the fuels by encouraging the population to use the big buses rather than the private cars . In Dubai , for example , the governments try to reduce the number of the cars by building the Metro which connect multiple places in the city , and they are thinking now to connect all the UAE cities together in order to reduce the total number of cars in the country and make the transportation more easy safe . What about us the people role in the UAE is very important in spreading the awareness about the global warming . Understanding and believing of the problem is the first steps . The mother earth give us everything we need for life and its is very important to give her back by protecting her and stop the damage . The people role is to spread the knowledge through the awareness campaigns and Media . We have to teach ourselves and our children how to reduce our carbon foot prints in order to avoid the global warming from being very serious problem . I think what the UAE government does now is very important, because they believe on protecting our planet , but I think it is not enough to make a huge reduction in the bad outcomes gases . UAE government should increase the fees on the public taxies and private cars , so this will encourage the people to use the public buses or the metro . Also , they should be more strict on the laws policies regarding the manufactories because it usually produce high amount of toxics . The recycle process should be a law and not a suggestion and any manufacture do not follow have to pay fees or even close it because the environment and its effect on our health is more important than production items . The people and government should cooperate in order to get the high benefits . Conclusion : Summary support the thesis + opinion . My notes : IT is still not enough , tax for the private car , In the UAE, and as an important oil producer with the fifth largest proven oil reserves in the Middle East, we also believe on the importance of energy as a main driver for our economic growth and sustainable living. UAE trust that renewable energy is crucial to the worlds future prosperity. Abu Dhabis Plan 2030 establishes a clear vision for sustainability as the foundation of any new development occurring in the Emirate and capital city of Abu Dhabi. This commitment is a reflection of the values and ideals of our nation. The tenets of sustainable living in the Middle East is the guiding force behind Estidama. More than just a sustainability program, Estidama is the symbol of an inspired vision for governance and community development.

Retaining Employees in Small Business Essay -- essays research papers
Abstract Retaining employees is a dilemma for small businesses. Large corporations have resources specifically aimed at keeping their employees while smaller ones do not. Using online resources, we examined the issue of employee retention in small business. We found that the problem stems from different areas, lack of resources, few employees, minimal direction from management. While these issues are a problem, they are not insurmountable. Small businesses need to be innovative and creative in finding ways to keep their employees. Retaining Employees Why would a small business see higher turnover than a larger company? In general, small companies have less official company documentation and standardization with regard to job descriptions and responsibilities. Because there is a smaller employee roster, there is less opportunity for specialization. Small business employees often have to be versatile. It is for this reason that small businesses often refrain from being specific in outlining an employeeââ¬â¢s duties: The employers themselves may not know ultimately what the expectations are of their own employees. Writes Kickul, ââ¬Å"Instead of having explicit job assignments, job descriptions, and training programs that are traditionally seen within large organizations (Aldrich and Auster 1986; Aldrich and Langton 1997), small firms and their founders may rely on informal techniques to communicate their organizational benefits and rewards to guide and assist employees in understanding their psychological contract with the smal l business. (Kickul, Jill)â⬠Employees often want specific descriptions of their roles and responsibility. This means having written job roles and responsibilities, and having this available to the employee. When an employee has a specific understanding of what is expected of them, they will tend to have an increased sense of job security. As mentioned in the above quote, this scenario is traditionally found in larger companies. An individual going to work for Home Depot or Wal-Mart is going to be given an employee handbook, specific outline and description of job requirements, etc. In the absence of this explicit communication, i.e. in the small business environment, there exists the possibility of miscommunication, misunderstanding, and resentment using these ââ¬Å"informalâ⬠techniques, be they verbal, hinted at, indirectly suggested, or otherwis... ... environment that is desirable and unique can help in this process. This includes promoting from within the company and giving employeesââ¬â¢ room to grow. Most small businesses will find that these solutions can help when there is a lack of resources. Finally, by getting creative small businesses can find solutions that cost less and will still be effective in retaining employees in the face of larger businesses. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à References Daveta, John (2001). Racisim in Sports
Comm 102KEREM MERAL Spring 200720050383 Valerie A. Tas? ran Second Draft Racism in Sports In the modernized and global world of today, it is necessary for people to get rid of their prejudices and learn to respect differences. Racism should be eliminated from all areas of life, including sports. Sport is meant that bring people from different backgrounds together to compete in equal conditions and provide interactions among them. No matter which country and ethnicity an athlete is from, once they are in an international competition, all should have equal rights. The only factor should be their skills and success. However, there are many cases when sportsmen or sportswomen face prejudices because of their ethnicity. There are even times when opportunities for them to choose their profession and become successful are limited because of their race. Although it is hard to prove acts of racism in sports, athletes show their reaction by letting authorities know about it, or talking to the p ress about the discrimination they face. The aim of sports should be providing equal opportunities for everyone and a peaceful atmosphere where people cooperate and compete at the same time.It should not give unequal rights and opportunities to a group because of their race while disregarding and discriminating another group. In this paper, the aim is to examine the issue of racism in sports and prove that it is in damaging levels for sportsmen that face it. First, historical facts and general information will be given about the effects of discrimination in sports. Then, cases of racism in sports will be analyzed by related examples. Finally, it will be concluded that authorities are not successful in eliminating racism in sports and this damages careers of athletes and players who face it.Some of the people who make racist movements are sport fans. Club owners see them as a source of income. If they punish these fans they will earn less money then before. Because of that they are a fraid of punishing them. The sport players and athletes, who face to racism in the sport areas, lost their interest to sport. Some of them cannot carry this pressure and had to retire earlier. Racism has always been a controversial issue throughout the history. Many arguments have been made on the issue of racism and sport. Jarvie & Reid (1997) focus in their article on the area of sport and racism. They claim that the ââ¬Å"European intellectual constructions of racism have often been applied in a devastating manner in the field of sportâ⬠(Jarvie & Reid, 1997, p. 211). In the other words, racism that emerged in Europe is started to appear in the sport fields, too. So, the historical developments on discrimination have also affected sports. Jarvie & Reid (1997) further claim that discussions on racism lead to numerous racist beliefs about sporting skills of people. The early studies on racism between 1920s and 1960s in America paid attention to discrimination against black peo ple.In South Africa, during 1948, apartheid had emerged. During the time, sport was seen as: ââ¬Å"functionally supportive of and integral to a multi-racial South African society in which a plurality of groups competed within the framework of apartheidâ⬠(Jarvie & Reid, 1997, p. 213). South Africa at that time had to be unfair, racist and ideological at the time because of the external pressures. This ideology regulated involvement in sport. It claimed that although sport has a kind of independence, it included ââ¬Å"racial segregation and racial discriminationâ⬠(Jarvie & Reid, 1997, p. 213).Writers in South Africa at that time believed that the racism in sports could be eliminated by external pressures. In 1960s and 1970s other efforts were made to explain race and race relations. One was the work of John Rex, who claimed that race relations caused different groups to be located in social stratification. For example, because of discrimination, blacks were put at the bo ttom of society. The demonstrations of American athletes in 1968, called ââ¬Å"Black Powerâ⬠were a reaction to this. The athletes believed that they were not given the treatment they deserved although they were very successful in Olympics. They said that they were being used and race relations were very bad. (Jarvie & Reid, 1997)When racism was present in society, it was also seen in sports and protests occurred as a result. Jarvie ( 1991 ) claims that the non-racial sport movement in Africa, the Olympic Project for Human Rights, and other protests are examples of the attempts to prevent racism in sports. Finally, it is concluded that during the last century, many efforts were done in order to explain racism and race relations in sports. Racism in sport is in high levels and it results in disadvantage and a barrier for he group of people being subject to it. They are not given the same opportunities of involving in advertisements or occupying important managerial positions in sports. Letââ¬â¢s now introduce some evident cases of racism in sports from real life stories. First, as Lipman (1988) suggests, there is a lot of racism going on in sports marketing. When an advertiser wants to use an athlete in a commercial, first they will go to a white athlete. They are afraid of losing some consumers, because some consumers can show a negative reaction when they see a black athlete on a commercial of their supporting brand.Even if they are not completely racist, it doesnââ¬â¢t even cross their minds to choose a black athlete. They instinctively go to a white athlete. However, marketers and sports agent refuse to accept that they are being racist and Michael Goldberg -New Yorkââ¬â¢s National Media Group, the sports-marketing firm that represents gymnast Mary Lou Retton- says that ââ¬Å"to blame an athleteââ¬â¢s lack of endorsement success on race discriminationâ⬠is not right. (Lipman, 1988, p. 1) On the other hand, it is also true that some ve ry successful and famous black athletes are not offered any role in advertisements.Although 8 of 12 best ranked athletes in US are black, only one black athlete; Michael Jordan was ranked in highest paid endorsers in Sports Marketing Newsletter. (Lipman, 1988) . This example shows that although not done clearly, there is a prejudice in sports advertisers to choose white athletes and ignore blacks. In most of the commercials white athletes take role instead of black athletes. Commercials owners prefer the white athletes. Another real life example on the discrimination in sports is given by Rainbow Forum on Race, Racism in Sports Media (1996).In the forum, it was said that although black athletes are dominant in the sport area, their numbers have declined in managerial and coaching positions in sports since 1980ââ¬â¢s. For example, it was noted that there were few Blacks in managerial positions in the media. There were only 10 Black sports columnists in all the 1600 newspapers. Als o, although NBA is 80 % black, NFL 67 % and Major League Baseball is 37% Black or Latino; about 80% of working population in offices in these leagues are white (1996). This shows that whites have an advantage over blacks or Latinos over occupying important positions in sports. Both examples show that because of racism in sports, some groups which are discriminated have a hard time in occupying positions in management or finding the same endorsement opportunities as whites. There are also some cases when racism in sports is so strong that it forces people to change their occupation. As Obley (2006) explain, the story of Oliver Purnell is a good real life example of how racism can affect the careers of sports players. Obley (2006) claims that ââ¬Å"racism in America forced Purnell down another roadâ⬠(p. 1).Purnell emphasizes that his aim was to play baseball which was almost his favorite sport, but he wasnââ¬â¢t allowed to play baseball in Little League during the 70ââ¬â¢s because of the racial movements against him. Because of this, he started playing basketball and was very successful at it, and after some experiences as player, he took the position of coach. He became the first African-American head coach hired by Clemson at team Old Dominion. However, although he turned out to be successful in another area, his actual goal was to play baseball. Obley, 2006) As a result, because of racism in sports, he had to change his area and missed the chance of become a successful baseball player which was his initial purpose. But luckily, he showed his talents in another area, which is basketball. There may also be cases when talented people miss the chance of being recognized because of their races. Thyrone Willingham, a football coach at Stanford emphasized this by saying: in our country, not just in athletics, there is a great deal of talent we let go unnoticed. You see alent not being derived, not being noticed, not showing what it can do. There are a lo t of people who could be doing the job I am doing, given the opportunityâ⬠(as cited in Shrophire, 1996, p. 20) So, it is seen that racism in sports can have important effects on the careers of sports players, Many talented people subject to racism might not be able to show their talents and become a successful sportsman or woman. There are a lot of talented people who couldnââ¬â¢t arrive to the success. It is not so easy that a talent arises suddenly and discovers it.Because of that people have to give more importance to these talented people and try to protect them from the racial rages. Although many athletes and other sports players often complain about events of racism, the authorities are not successful in taking action and eliminating discrimination. For example, as Carrington and McDonald (2001) explain, during the National Village Cricket Championship quarter-final in 1996, an Asian team sent an official complaint saying they were racially abused by members of the C aldy team from the Wirral.Although the Cricketer magazine, which ââ¬Å"organized the competition, reprimanded the Wirral team for ââ¬Ësledgingââ¬â¢ but took no action on the racial abuseâ⬠(Carrington & McDonald, 2001, p. 54) Because of this, black and Asian cricketers believe that authorities donââ¬â¢t take racism serious and try to prevent it. The cricketing authorities failed to punish clubs and players which are guilty of racist actions. This way, they actually legitimize such acts. (Carrington & McDonald, 2001). Also, sometimes authorities fail to realize and accept that there is racism.Unable to even accept its existence, they cannot take any action against it. As Dimeo and Finn (2001) explain, despite of clear evidence, there is a continuous rejection of racism in Scottish football. There is a belief that ââ¬Å"racism is no problem here and racism is foreign to Scotlandâ⬠(p. 29). Lipman (1988) also explain that sports agents and marketers fail to accept that institutionalized racism exist in advertising. So, in such cases, being unable even to accept the fact of racism, authorities may not take any action towards it.Finally, it is seen that authorities are not successful in attempting to eliminate discrimination from sports and there are a lot more steps to be taken. In the end, it has been shown that there are not always equal opportunities provided for people from different races in sports. There is an important degree of discrimination going on which has negative effects on athletes and other people engaged in areas of sports. Most of the time, this discrimination is recognized, but cannot be proved directly, because these racial movements mostly take place by oral way.Authorities cannot find any printed proof. Because of this discrimination, many talented people are being put in hard conditions for their career. Some of them had to retire earlier, some of them are moving around the country to find an area in which racism doesnà ¢â¬â¢t appear. It has been shown that authorities were not able to take action to eliminate racism in sports. They should be more effective in punishing discriminatory acts in sports. To conclude, sports should aim to bring people from different ethnicities together in an environment which is free of biases, prejudices, and acts of racism. I

INTRODUCTION [pic] What is the Indian Premier League (INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL))? The Indian Premier League, created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC), is a Twenty20 cricket competition. It is the brainchild of BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi and is modelled along the lines of club football in Europe, which is unlike anything cricket has known in the past. The best players from around the world will not play according to their nationality but as per the market forces. Big money involved The sheer big money of the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is unprecedented at this level of cricket. The BCCI has already made close to US$ 1. 75 billion solely from the sale of TV rights ($908 million), promotion ($108 million) and franchises (approximately $700 million). Players are expected to earn close to US$1 million for a three-year contract. Its an entire cricket economy out there. Top cricketers involved There are 77 names in the competition. MS Dhoni, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Shoaib Akhtar, Jayawardene, Jayasuriya, Yuvraj and Hayden are some of the big names. The process The tournament is scheduled to begin on April 18, 2008 and will last for 44 days, involving 59 matches. The prize money for the league will be around Rs 13 crore (US $3million). Each team will have a pool of 16 players, of whom eight can be international and four from the Under-22 level or from the catchment area where the team is based. The governing council consists of Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi, Sunil Gavaskar, MAK Pataudi and Ravi Shastri, Rajiv Shukla, Chirayu Amin, Inderjit Singh Bindra and Arun Jaitley. Although it is going to be a franchise system, some foreign players have already been contracted by the BCCI to play in the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL). Fixtures Each team will play the other 7 teams home and away, the top four teams at the end of the group stages will go through to the semi finals. Format 8 teams 16 players in a squad INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) as a Product: Position in the BCG Matrix: Is INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) just a product now ? Is INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) only for money minting ? What is its position in the BCG MATRIX ? The Indian Premier League going to be held in South Africa will mainly be a television product for the Indian market and the crowd attendances will be no more than a bonus, according to a former cricket administrator. Arthur Turner says that hosting of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) in South Africa is not a coup for the country as the tournament was shifted out of India due to security reasons. It is hard to see how eight foreign teams playing 59 matches in a foreign country will capture the imagination of the South African public. Sure there will be a curiosity factor but nothing more. Durban will probably be the exception given the huge Indian community, Sports24. com quoted Arthur, as saying. He says the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) will be mainly a television product for the Indian market and the crowd attendances will be no more than a bonus, and adds that the main aim of the organisers is to ensure that the tournament takes place. Arthur compliments Cricket South Africa on assisting the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) by hosting the tournament in the country as an emergency measure, which is good in the spirit of cricket. The South African economy will also benefit from the move with the hospitality, hotel and transport industries being the main beneficiaries. Also, the local cricket provinces and their venues will benefit financially from a staging fee for matches, he says. What is BCG MATRIX? [pic] Theà BCG matrixà or also calledà BCG modelà relates to marketing. The BCG model is a well-known portfolio management tool used in product life cycle theory. BCG matrix is often used to prioritize which products within company product mix get more funding and attention. Theà BCG matrixà model is aportfolio planningà model developed by Bruce Henderson of the Boston Consulting Group in the early 1970s. The BCG model is based on classification of products (and implicitly also company business units)à into four categories based on combinations ofmarket growthà andà market shareà relative to the largest competitor. When should I use the BCG matrix model? Each product has itsà product life cycle, and each stage in products life-cycle represents a different profile of risk and return. In general, aà company should maintain aà balancedà portfolio of products. Having a balanced product portfolio includes bothà high-growthà products as well aslow-growthà products. Aà high-growth productà is for example a new one that we are trying to get to some market. It takes some effort and resources to market it, to build distribution channels, and to build sales infrastructure, but it is a product that is expected to bring the gold in the future. An example of this product would beà an iPod. Aà low-growth productà is for example an established product known by the market. Characteristics of this product do not change much, customers know what they are getting, and the price does not change much either. This product has only limited budget for marketing. The is the milking cow that brings in the constant flow of cash. An example of this product would be a regular Colgate toothpaste. But the question is, how do we exactly find out what phase our product is in, and how do we classify what we sell? Furthermore, we also ask, where does each of our products fit into our product mix? Should we promote one product moreà than the other one? Theà BCG matrixà can help with this. Theà BCG matrixà reaches further behind product mix. Knowing what we are selling helps managers to make decisions about what priorities to assign to not only products but also company departments and business units. What is the BCG matrix and how does the BCG model work? Placing products in the BCG matrix results in 4 categories in a portfolio of a company: BCG STARSà (high growth, high market share) Stars are defined by having high market share in a growing market. Stars are the leaders in the business but still need a lot of support for promotion a placement. If market share is kept, Stars are likely to grow into cash cows. BCG QUESTION MARKSà (high growth, low market share) These products are in growing markets but have low market share. Question marks are essentially new products where bu yers have yet to discover them. The marketing strategy is to get markets to adopt these products. Question marks have high demands and low returns due to low market share. These products need to increase their market share quickly or they become dogs. The best way to handle Question marks is to either invest heavily in them to gain market share or to sell them. BCG CASH COWSà (low growth, high market share) Cash cows are in a position of high market share in a mature market. If competitive advantage has been achieved, cash cows have high profit margins and generate a lot of cash flow. Because of the low growth, promotion and placement investments are low. Investments into supporting infrastructure can improve efficiency and increase cash flow more. Cash cows are the products that businesses strive for. BCG DOGSà (low growth, low market share) Dogs are in low growth markets and have low market share. Dogs should be avoided and minimized. Expensive turn-around plans usua lly do not help. And now, lets put all this into a picture: [pic] Are there any problems with the BCG matrix model? Some limitations of theà BCG matrix model include: The first problem can be how we define market and how we get data about market share A high market share does not necessarily lead to profitability at all times The model employs only two dimensions ââ¬â market share and product or service growth rate Low share or niche businesses can be profitable too (some Dogs can be more profitable than cash Cows) The model does not reflect growth rates of the overall market The model neglects the effects of synergy between business units Market growth is not the only indicator for attractiveness of a market There are probably even more aspects that need to be considered in a particular use of the BCG model. Where can I find more information about the BCG matrix model? What is the next level of strategic management analysis? Theà BCG matrix can help to find a strategy. But, what if we have 2-3 strategies and need to decide which one is the best one? The Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM)à model can be used to compare strategic alternatives. I have questions about the BCG matrix In case you have any questions about theà BCG matrix, you might want to submit them at ourà management discussion forum. You might also be interested in reading about theà Balanced Scorecardmodel and about theà Porters Five Forcesà model. On the back of millions of dollars, sinful player bids, unparalleled press coverage, star quotient, imported cheerleaders, was launched the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) spectacle. The television ratings are big, the stadiums are packed to capacity, the team anthems jam radio airwaves INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is suddenly the biggest thing to hit India. So, does the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) success reflect a changing India, or is it just fantastic marketing? Possibly, a bit of both. The INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) capitalises on mirrors some emerging consumer trends therein lies its success. n India Shining: Its now Indias moment of glory thats what our GenX believes wants. India bidding for the worlds best players, Indians captaining global stalwarts INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is an Indian takeover of cricket. Whatever the outcome of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) final, it will still be an India win. Unlike the often stressful moments leading to disappointing outcomes of our national team versus another country, INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is a total win-win for India. The Best The World Has To Offer: Unlike their parents, todays Indians are familiar with the worlds best latest. And they will not settle for less. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is just that. The best players from across the world, the cheerleaders flown in, the best brands offering customised merchandise, stadiums all spruced up, McD burgers CCD coffee on the stands. Even the spiffy, MI3 looking, walkie-talkie toting, security guards at the stadiums are so different from the portly bored policewallahs who would earlier herd crowds. Watching an INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) match live is actually a world-class experience (if you just ignore the parking hassles). Metros Going Global: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata are no longer about the Ghats, the Madrasis the Bongs. The IT ITeS boom has made our metros into multicultural, multilanguage, multiethnic, melting pots, with enough Gora presence. The INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) teams reflect just that. Homogeneous yet heterogeneous. Saurabh Tiwari, Manish Pandey Harbhajans being on the Mumbai Indians team will be giving sleepless nights to Raj Thackery his MNS. But thats what our cities are today thats what we have come to accept. Fast Furious: Time is at premium patience a forgotten virtue. For a young India, INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is instant gratification. Three hours of excitement fast-paced action. Unlike other sports, in T20 there is some scoring every minute of the game. And when there is a break in the game, the cheerleaders ensure that the crowds remain titillated the adrenaline continues to flow. Pretty much the 2 minute-noodles-with-added-masala formula. Its time has finally come. Page 3 Is The Way To Be: In a country obsessed with Bollywood cricket, INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) has just the right mix. The star quotient in sports has never been so high. Our Bollywood team owners along with their glitterati friends have widened INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) from sports page to Page 3. There is something in it from everyone from the crazy cricket addict, to his SRK obsessed girl-friend INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) covers it all. The glitzy team uniforms (how can we ignore the gold silver pads), the Hollywood inspired team names of course, the Washington Redskins have caught a nations imagination. In fact, cheerleading is all set to debut as the latest career option for the young, swinging Indian. Show Me The Money: Money opulence rule. Our youngistan is obsessed by big money, bigger salaries, side money at the BPO, quick bucks on the Stock Exchange. To have is great, to have not is a non-option. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is the mother of big money. 160 players have been paid, unheard-of-dreamt-of money. And that is a big draw we are hooked to guys with big money. Remember Harshvardhan Nawathe, the first KBC winner how his winning episode doubled the already huge KBC ratings? Desperately Seeking Entertainment: Couch potatoes we no longer are. But so far, apart from the saas-bahu sagas, entertainment was limited to shopping, eating cinema. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is a great new hangout, evident by the stands packed mostly with young males 15-25 years, SEC AB, having the time of their lives. The festive atmosphere created by the cheerleaders, speakers blaring the team anthems Bollywood songs, all add to the picnic. But clearly, Indians are starved for some out-of-home entertainment. Media Maketh The Man: Our Indian idols are all created by media. Be it a Khali who emerged out of nowhere, a Prince who fell in a well, or Bhajji-Sree whose slapping is still hogging airtime. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) has provided media with all the big bucks, glamour the sleaze which makes for great PR coverage. And the 25% increased ratings of the news channels are also reflective of an India which is lapping up sleaze, gossip tabloid journalism. Ready For Change: At home also, the shenanigans on-field, be it the cheery cheerleaders or the bad Bhajji, are a welcome relief for soap fatigued families, evident by the high TRPs of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) the falling fortunes of daily soaps. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) offered a whole new experience India was ready to give it a try. Of course, since most of India is a single-TV home, it also shows that, finally, the males have got hold of the remote. Changed But Rooted: Comparing INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) our recent debacles in hockey. Hockey through the years has remained as it was. Cricket has evolved from tests to ODIs to 20-20s now to league. Yet, there is heritage, tradition familiarity. Our great grandparents played cricket went to watch test matches (all five days of it). INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is not a complete break from the past, yet its keeps pace with changing times. Whether the Ambanis or the Mallayas are able to milk this, their latest cow, remains to be seen. But what they Lalit Modi have created, perhaps truly represents the pulse of a nation. And a summer to remember. (http://Indian Premier League (IPL). timesofindia. indiatimes. com/articleshow/msid-3084001,prtpage-1. ms) OPENING DOORS TO THE BIGGEST MEDIA MOVEMENT [pic] ? It has got both versions of cricket that is 50 over and 20 over format of the game even though more emphasis is given to the 20-20 format. When started INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) consisted of 6 teams then by 2008 it has been increased to 8 and then in the second half of the year by 9. Board of cricket control of India considers ICL as unauthorised league and it has barred ICL players from taking part in any tournament hosted by ICC or BCCI. Indian cricket league still has its share of audience. It has got international players from almost all the cricket playing nations. It is headed by one of the legends of Indian cricket Mr. Kapildev, former captain of world cup winning team of India. ICL has got players like Brain Lara, who is considered as one among the top 3 players the world has ever produced. ? ICL is launched by Subhash Chandra in May 2007. ICL is a unique concept in cricket after Zee was not able to secure rights of the World Cup 2011. ? Other telecasters include Geo Super in Pakistan, Astro Telkom Malaysia, Starhub in Singapore, Showtime Arabia in Middle-East, Zee Sports in USA Canada and Zee Cinema in United Kingdom Europe. Global rights have been sold for US$10mn. TITLE SPONSERS: Edelweiss was the title sponsor with Rs150mn (for ten years) OTHER SPONSERS: JVC, Aircel, Vodafone and Intel were associate sponsors MARKETING MIX INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) 1. The production of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) as a service product is exemplified by the mere volume of the production of revenue from every aspect of the game. 2. Teams, players and every small aspect related to INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) has become an INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) product. 3. Factors like material management for stadiums, players, Facilities arrangement for players, spectators, Guests, etc transportation management and allied activities require a proper management and BCCI has made all possible efforts to provide with the best facilities to everyone from spectators to players and third parties involved 4. One of the leading products in the segment. ICL Both INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) and ICL are having similar product. What ICL has is that, apart from the 20-20 match up, ICL has also planned to introduce 50 over match by 2010. Other than that both INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) and ICL have similar products. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) 1. The venue chosen for the cricket matches was a strategic choice of places which are named after franchisees, which helped attract people. ICL 1. In first phase ICL they only had one stadium. Now it has 3 stadiums in India, to an extend it was a barrier in attracting crowd from various places. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) 1. Follows a policy of price leadership strategy. 2. It also uses premium pricing strategy. 3. Gate revenues in INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) are largely dependent on stadium capacity and purchasing power of city. They are expected to vary between Rs200-Rs5, 000 premium seating. 0% of tickets will go to INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL). Internationally, most of these teams own stadiums ICL 1. Penetration pricing 1. Uses all medium of advertisement it includes TV, newspaper, internet, billboards etc. 2. It follows the princIndian Premier League (IPL)e of controversy marketing. Marketing controversy either way, the end result is unparalleled cove rage; residual awareness of your product, which later most definitely translates into brand recall, and even sales. 3. Live concerts. 4. Uses film stars like Sharuk khan, Akhsay Kumar etc for promotion. 5. Grant opening ceremony. 6. Worldwide telecast. MARKETING ENVIRONMENT There are several actors and forces present in the industry that determine the fate of the product, INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) and ICL is no exception to this. We can classify those macro forces mainly into 6 groups 1. Demographic environment 2. Physical environment 3. Economic environment 4. Technological environment 5. Socio-cultural environment 6. Political and legal environment (Marketing management 12th edition(12e) by kotler and keller page numer-27) I have used two variables in SWOT analysis to understand the macro environment that is OPPUTUNITIES and TREATS and to understand the micro environment STREGTH and WEAKNESS is used. SWOT ANALYSIS STRENGTH ? INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is based on the 20-20 format of cricket which would be completed within 3 hours. It is fast-paced and exciting, and more over it can be played in weekend or weekend afternoons. That makes it appealing like American football, basketball and soccer. It will appeal both to TV audience and as a spectator sport. ? INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) structure is such that all the aspects works in great balance to maximise the profit. ? India is cricket crazy nation so it is easy to promote the products like INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) and ICL. WEAKNESS 20-20 has become so popular that it can damage the other forms of cricket that is 50 over game and test cricket. ? There is always a distance from fans as it is difficult for everyone to get into the ground to see the matches. ? It is very difficult for sports and business to go together, business needs quick results but in a team sport it might time gel a group together. If management and team a re two levels it creates problems for the players. OPPURTUNITIES ? INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is very attractive as a marketing communication opportunity since it has a large potential mass audience, especially for advertisers and sponsors. If the franchisees are able to generate a large fan base then it will be able to generate a large TV revenue ? Fan are of different types so there will be more corporate hospitality, season tickets, away tickets, TV pay-per-view and other ways to segment the markets for INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) ? Opportunity for merchandising is very huge e. g. sales of shirts, credit cards and other fan memorabilia. Grounds can also sell refreshments and other services during the game. ? This version helps to gain more youngsters to game and this will create a long term fan base for the frachesies. Their parents and older cricket fans may still prefer older forms of cricket. Youth market will also force the other to buy the product as status symbol. ? India has traditionally high inflation rate but the franchise has to pay only a fixed rate still 2017-18 means the investment is safe. THREATS ? Revenue will be more for highly supported team not for the highly priced team. ? Franchises are highly expensive. The most expensive team was brought by mukesh ambani for $111. 9million and the lowest Rajasthan royal for $67million. If the fan basis does not generate enough income then it will be difficult to pay the salaries for the players. ? If the best invested players donââ¬â¢t play well then you may not see the return on investment. ? The return on investment will have to for the long term as we cannot expect fast returns from all quarters quickly. ? It is the responsibility of the board of cricket control board of India to keep the level of competition with the other boards. It is the responsibility of the board to attract the top names of cricket to India. To understand macro forces in detail PEST analysis is used. PEST ANALSIS POLITICAL FACTORS ? Government of India was unable to provide security for the 20-20 tournament so it had to move to South Africa with immediate effect. ? Terrorism and political instability still remains a problem in India. ECONOMIC FACTORS ? Indian economy is facing deflation (. 12) so the investment in short term is not a safer option. ? Recession in world economy is another major issue so the purchasing power of the customer is considerably week ? INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL)ââ¬â¢s second edition had to move to South Africa it will cause a minimum loss of 250 crore rupees for the government of India in the form of taxes. As the stadiums in South Africa are comparatively smaller than India, it will cause the franchisees to loss another 50 crore rupees. ? Still Indian economy is growing at a faster rate than any other country except China and cricket is the life blood of almost every Indian. ? INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is expected to bring BCCI 4500 crores in the next 10years. SOCIAL FACTORS ? India is a cricket crazy nation so the promotion of cricket is not at all an issue for the franchisees. ? 20-20 cricket is able to attract the young population of India. TECHNOLOGICAL FACTORS Cable television is still not available to large population of India. LIKELY EFFECTS ON THE INDUSTRY IN NEXT 12 MONTHS India is expected to grow at rate of 7 percent. Cricket has got a large fan base in India and it the only one industry in India expected outperform the effects of recession. Recent biding for player is an example for this effect. If the government of India can provide enough security then cricket will bring enough money for the economy. At the beginning of 2010 INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) will have 4 more teams that mean more money in the economy and growth in the sector is bound to increase. All the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) franchisees will earn profit from this year as already 3 teams were able to generate profit in the first year itself. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) from this year onwards will have a new market also in the form of South Africa. This will increase the viewership and it will also make International cricket council to find specific time slot for INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL). TV revenues is expected to grow as INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) governing body has decided to have another brake of 5 minutes in between . RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Extensive research was carried out for the successful completion of this project. Both primary and secondary data were collected from various Sources. PRIMARY DATA: The main data was collected from the zonal office of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) situated in Mumbai. An email which contains the typical details and strategies was received as feedback. The Marketing wing of both INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) ICL was contacted for preparing this assignment. Due to expense factor, communication was mostly done via email. The marketing department gave relevant information about the data. SECONDARY DATA: The secondary data in this study is collected from various magazines, Newspapers and Websites. Analysis and others parts are done on the basis of these secondary data and knowledge collected from the marketing lectures. LIMITATIONS My study is based on Primary data collected was only through phone and e-mail. The data from the primary source was very limited and it does not give the real picture of the Indian Entertainment Industry. The transparency of the data that is available is not entirely trustworthy. The net worth worth of the entertainment industry and the actual worth is not always the same. The time scale for studying the entire assignment was short. Such a vast case cannot be studied in a short span. There was also geographical constrains in collecting the data. Another important limitation was the communication gap. The only ways possible which could be effectively utilised were the telephone and e-mails. But these took lot of time as this entertainment industry is so scheduled. DISCUSSION INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi is confident that recession will have no impact on the tournament. He told CNN-IBN on 5th February that ââ¬Å"the glitzy Twenty20 league is virtually recession proofâ⬠Lot of experts also believe that INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) is one industry that will do well even in this time of recession. This research tries to bring out the after-effectsââ¬â¢ of such a system and its influence in various segments of people. My own analysis also prove that the above statement is true because the valuation of one of the teams of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) that is Rajasthan Royals has gone upto 3733 percent appreciation in its share value. This fact shows that there is a growing interest in this product. (http://Indian Premier League (IPL)cricket4u. com/2009/02/05/long-term-contracts-make-Indian Premier League (IPL)-recession-proof-modi) One of the hot debate about the form of cricket is that 20-20 format kills Test cricket . As per Rahul Dravid one of the most successful Indian cricketer ââ¬Å"T20 is unique and lot of young Indian players are excelling in this format. Whether they can take this confidence to the next level is debatable. Itââ¬â¢s not going to be easy and the skills with which you achieve success in T20 may not help you give you success in Ranji and Testsâ⬠But the continuous success of Indian cricket in all forms of cricket in the last 2 years proves that this analysis of Rahul proved to be wrong. The confidence these youngsters have gained from 20-20 proved to useful in the other forms of cricket also. Indian Premier League (IPL)cricketlive. om/Indian Premier League (IPL)/indian-premier-league-quotes CONCLUTION INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL)ââ¬â¢s ability to sustain and grow its popularity in the long-term depends on the ability of individual franchises to break out and become large media properties on their own. Franchisees may also have to increase their marketing and promoti onal spends to effectively monetise their fan base and build brands out of their respective teams. Apart from finding more team sponsors, franchisees may try to increase the mix of premium seating in their home stadiums. At the moment a bit might beà tooà different if we look INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) and ICL. Inà the recentà formatà advantageà canà beà takenà byà organising à matchesà between à thisà two winners that is more matches can be played between the two leagues. In the coming year more innovation is expected we might be able to see 10-10 or a 5-5 over format of cricket. Recession VS INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) Modi said INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) will not be hit by INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) but unfortunately it did ââ¬â by article on http://cricketnext. in. com/news/recession-wont-hit-Indian Premier League (IPL)-auction-modi/37855-14. html And Indian Premier League (IPL)ticket. om/2009/01/Indian Premier League (IPL)-season-2-recession-hits-Indian Premier League (IPL). html CRICKETNEXT With big names such as Pietersen and Flintoff, the second INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) auction in Goa next week will be eagerly watched. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi tells CNN-IBN that he expects the auction to generate quite a buzz despite the econ omic recession INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL)TICKET The yearà 2007-08 saw sackings like never before in the world of cricket. Fromà coachesto CEOs andà officialsà of all kinds, almostà everybodyà was shown the door for reasons notpertainingà to performance alone. The yearà 2008-09à promisesà to be aà little different. The yearà 2008-09à promisesà to be aà little different. This year, it wont just beà coachesandà officialsà gettingà the pink slips; even cricketers will get them. At least threeà franchiseesà of theà Indian Premier Leagueà (INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL)) have already taken thenecessaryà steps to downsize their teams. The marching orders are likely to be served at the junior level. While Mumbai Indians plan to bring down their 27-member contingent to 18, teams like Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils are planning similar moves. . So what has triggered the move? Recession? Not really if theà franchiseesà are to be believed. Simply put they have grown wiser in the second year. Last year, we were very new to the concept and it all happened so fast. But this year onwards, expect most of the teams to work on a target-based princIndian Premier League (IPL)e. They know exactly what theyre going to be eyeing for or in terms of cricket, what their team composition is going to be during the two-month period, says a franchise official. Chargers have given Adam Gilchrist and Darren Lehmann, captain and coach respectively, the entire responsibility of manning teamà requirements. Of course, as one Chargers official suggests, this has come with a rider to get rid of all extra costs. In general, mostà franchiseesà now have a better idea of a core group functioning. Similarly, the captain, coach and senior players have a good understanding of the kind of team required. Were going to stick to that, he says. Other than the under-19 players (two per franchise), bought on a three-year contract during the 2008 auctions after India won the World Cup in Malaysia, most of the fringe players, picked from the domestic circuit, will in all likelihood be dumped. Mumbai Indians are tight-lipped for now, waiting for Sachin Tendulkar to give his nod, before the axe is wielded. Its goingà to be aà common affair with the economic scenario so depressing. It wont be the case with Mumbai alone, says an official involved closely with the Mumbai cricket.
